You will need to venture to the east side of the harbor and find the Fisherman's memorial parking lot that is located right in front of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic church. Parking there you get a great vista of the harbor and our working waterfront. Boothbay has a bustling recreational boat scene and is considered "The Boating Capital of New England", and our vibrant commercial fishing fleet makes up a big part of that activity. The bronze dory that you see here has an interesting story. Back in the 80's local fishermen and boat builders built a wooden mold and then gathered all their scrap bronze such as worn out propellers, fittings, bolts, etc. They took it to a then still operating foundry in Maine and had it cast. Truly a memorial made by the local boating community to honor those lives lost at sea.
