Anniversary Collaboration

ALE BREWED WITH STRAWBERRIES, CRANBERRIES, RHUBARB & HONEY
Single Release

The Osprey lives, fishes, raises its young, and shares in the bounty of both coastal Maine and Delaware. Perched overlooking the Sheepscot River in Maine we were inspired by this keen-eyed bird, and worked all summer to tell a fun-filled story of living and working in these special places. Shared native strawberries & honey were added to create a refreshing nectar that showcases both our brewery’s love for nature, wholesome living, and shared passions for a craft that brings people together to celebrate. Cheers!

Awe-Spray was brewed as an “undefined ale” with native strawberries, rhubarb, cranberries, and Maine honey. This 6.5% ABV ale features fruit notes up front, a hearty malt backbone, and a lightly-sweet honey finish.

A Natural Born Collaboration

The Calagione and Mitchell families have been living and collaborating in the Boothbay Region for years. This year, however, marks a special bond for both of us.

Back before Boothbay's first batch of beer in 2010, when our brewery was still being built, we traveled to the Calagione's farm and brewery and harvested trees to be milled and used in the building of our brewery and taphouse. You can visit our resort and find the beams carved with the Dogfish logo and the Calagione farm name to this day. Since then, our families have enjoyed gatherings, beer releases, collaborations and inspirations together in our beer endeavors.

The year of 2020 represents Dogfish Head Brewery's 25th and Boothbay Craft Brewery's 10th anniversaries. In classic Mitchell/Calagione style, we couldn't pass up such a prime opportunity to collaborate and showcase our history and the next generation of family owners! Over the entire summer we worked together, both at Dogfish Head on Southport, Maine and Boothbay, Maine, to create a beer that represented the essence of Maine and Delaware - both their ingredients and resident wildlife. A true collaboration was born!

Our crews got together and brewed the pilot batch of Awe-Spray! at the Calagione home on Dogfish Head where strawberry rhubarb purée was splattering everywhere, and talented muralist, Jared Goulette, "The Color Wizard", created the painting of the Osprey that would eventually be manifested into the Awe-Spray! label. Jared would say, "Wow, that boiling wort just smells amazing. Better than this paint!", as he grabbed a finger-full of homemade cranberry purée.

The goal of the Awe-Spray! collaboration wasn't just the recipe or the beer, it's about the ultimate meaning of the brewing community; to share a passion for the craft that brings people together to celebrate and enjoy life.

Cheers!
